Seasonal Land Steward

McKenzie River Trust (MRT) 05/23-11/24

Assist Land Stewards, Volunteer Coordinator, Events & Outreach Manager, and Land Protection Manager in performing their respective duties. Manage GIS data to better inform stewardship action.

• Identify and record invasive species using Esri FieldMaps (35 hrs)

• Create and curate GIS layers in Esri AGOL to track stewardship activity, volunteer opportunities and activities, and safety hazards (41 hrs)

• Improve existing AGOL layers with field automation

• Survey failed planting using FieldMaps and analyze data in ArcGIS Pro and Rstudio

• Use ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Engine to identify suitable sites for Beaver Dam Analogs

• Track plant phenology in AGOL to improve stewardship work planning regarding seed collection and herbicide application

• Prepare stewardship related portions of Baseline Data Report

• Use ArcGIS Pro to create pre-visit maps for BDR

• Apply herbicide judiciously and within the bounds of the law and MRT policy to invasive species (99 hrs)

• Use tractor and skid steer to mow trails on Green Island for Outreach and volunteer events (55 hrs)

• Use tractor and skid steer to mow invasive species or reduce fire hazards (96 hrs)

• Use polesaw, brushcutter, and string trimmer to maintain trails and reduce fire hazards (70 hrs)

• Use chainsaw to cut and remove fallen trees and leaning branches (15 hrs)

• Maintain tractor and skid steer and assist in major repairs such as retreading skid steer or reattaching mower to tractor (38 hrs)

• Assist Volunteer Coordinator by preparing sites/materials for Watershed Wednesdays, leading volunteers, and identifying volunteer opportunities (35 hrs)

• Assist Land Stewards in Easement Monitoring data collection and Salesforce entry (24 hrs)

• Assist Events & Outreach Manager by preparing sites, identifying hazards, and reporting interesting wildlife activity
